Brakes for The Island Car

Well the brakes are squeaking (more like screaming) on the car. So instead of paying double normal retail for brakes here I am trying to order better rotors and pads and have them shipped from the states. We will let you know how that works out. I also set up an account with WalMart last night and ordered some cheap shorts to work in. We are testing different places to order things from on line. Deb had good luck with Lands End with quick shipping, a week via priority mail. With WalMart there was no way to see if they use parcel post or priority so it will be interesting to see how long that takes.

Hello,
I stumbled on your blog while looking for a USVI DMV website.
One comment on the brakes...
Squealing usually means new pads needed. They have a metal feeler-finger that starts to scrape on the rotor when the pad wears down.
The drilled rotors are not needed for everyday use.

Thanks,
Yes I am pretty sure the noise is the wear indicators. Although the vented slotted rotors aren't necessary for normal driving the mountainous terrain and roads here eat brakes alive. I have driven rental cars here with fifteen thousand miles on them that needed brakes. Given that if I can get the better pads and rotors I think they will hold up a little longer. If you have any specific questions about the DMV here let us know and we will try to answerer them for you.
