Rolex Regatta Videos

Until I get my video done, here are some official Rolex Regatta videos you can check out. Go to http://www.t2p.tv/guide/irr12.php and click on the Day of the week that you want to view towards the bottom of the page. They are pretty awesome videos. Enjoy!

Crazy hazy

Crazy hazy, originally uploaded by captainjay.

Not sure what all the haze is about. It settled in yesterday and hasn't left. We can't see Jost at all, and can barely see Hans Lollick. I guess I'll have to ask around today to see if anyone knows what's causing it. Saharan dust? Montserrat? Hmmmm

Still resting after a busy Rolex Regatta weekend. My cold is still hanging around adding to the madness. Most of my office is away at Sungard Summit and we're supposed to go live with a huge project this weekend. This is not going to be a fun week.

But on a better note, I took some really cool GoPro video and stills at the Rolex. Now I just need a better computer to edit the video and put it all together. Ours is slowly dying so I think it's time for a new one. I'll try to get some of the unedited clips to YouTube in the meantime. It took much better shots outside of the housing. I think I've scratched the lens on the housing so jay is going to order a new one and it tends to fog up inside the case once it's been out in the sun for awhile. But it still did an awesome job.

Rolex Regatta

Rolex Regatta, originally uploaded by captainjay.

Had a great day of sailing. Lots of excitement. I was the official time counter for the start. So crazy with all the boats trying to cross the start line all at the same time. We didn't do very well as far as finish time but it was awesome experience and a day on the water is better than a day doing anything else :-)

Beautiful day for sailing! Jay and I are going out today for the Rolex Regatta. First time I've ever been on a sail boat for a race. I'm the official photographer and gopher. Lol So exciting!

Friday Pic

Rolex Regatta starts today and the weather is looking pretty yuk out this morning. The forecast is pretty much rain all day but I hope it's wrong for the sailors out racing. Jay is supposed to go tomorrow and Sunday on the boat he practiced with last weekend. The boat was supposed to have a crew for the race but I guess they didn't work out so well during yesterday's practice run so they called to see if Jay wanted to go. I may go as a ride along but I'm getting a really bad cold so I guess I'll see how I feel by tomorrow morning. I think it would be awesome to be out on a sailboat while racing so I hope I feel better.

New blog for St. Thomas Zumba

It's getting closer to Carnival 2012! And this year I'm actually going to be walking in the parade with my Zumba crew! I can't wait, should be a lot of fun :-)

So of course I volunteered to do a blog for the group so that everyone can keep up on the details. They were originally just posting info on Facebook and trying to get an e-mail list going. But not everyone is on Facebook, so it just made more sense to put it out for everyone to see.

We'll be practicing our routines at the Saturday 9:00 am Yacht Haven Grande Zumba class and having meetings after the class to get updates from everyone. The troupe is open to anyone who loves Zumba, so if you're on island and you want to be involved, stop by. We hope to have a cost per particpant and put a zumba order in for zumba wear this Satuday.

We have 5 weeks to get everything set and get in shape for the 5 hour (or more) zumba-thon down main street! Make sure to come check us out!

Happy St. Patricks Day

Happy St. Patricks Day, originally uploaded by captainjay.

Beautiful day today. And lots going on for St. Patricks day. We plan to hit a few places in Red Hook this evening so that should be fun. Can't find my green beads so I guess I'll just have to "obtain" some more :-)

Jay gets to go sailing tomorrow in the pre Rolex Regatta. The actual regatta is next weekend. But tomorrow they have a pre race just so everyone gets a warm up before the big day. There's an after party at the St. Thomas Yacht Club. So I guess I'll meet up with him there after the sail. He's only been in one other regatta and that was last October for Foxys Cat Fight. They opened the race to monohulls so he went on a friends boat and they were first in class and hold all the records for monohulls. Of course they were the only one in the class lol. But whose counting. They had a great time.

Everyone have a great time today! Have some green beer and Irish stew :-)

Sunday at Joes

Sunday at Joes, originally uploaded by captainjay.

Nice relaxing weekend. Spending Sunday at Joes Beach bar. Our favorite Sunday hangout. Crazy week at work (for both of us) so it's nice to relax a little. The winds have finally died down. It was crazy this week. At night it sounded like hurricane winds. The weather station was only reporting 15 mph but it sounded much stronger than that. Friends that live on boats said it was a wild week so they're glad the wind has died down as well.

Our zumba class is trying to get a carnival troupe together. That should be interesting. I signed up so we'll see if they can get it organized in time. 5 hours of zumba in the sun, hmmmm we'll see how that goes lol

Sunday Diving

Sunday Diving, originally uploaded by captainjay.

So yesterday since Deb and I were both off and Gary and Allison are in town we decided to get a dive in. After bouncing around a little bit trying to find a decent dive sight, the winds were up quite a bit, we ended up at Flat Key. Deb hasn't been diving in over two years. She decided not to go. So that left me, Gary and Kyle. Kyle wanted to test out a used BCD that he bought. Well the inflator was stuck so he didn't go either.
Gary and I dropped down hoping to find a lobster or three. The good news is that Gary managed to find three under a rock pretty quickly, we just had no luck getting them out. So we finished the dive on a nice reef with lots of fish. We even spotted a small nurse shark sleeping under a ledge on the way back to the boat .
After the dive we all met back up at Honeymoon Beach for the afternoon. Deb and Kyle did manage to get in the water with dive gear for a little practice at the beach.

Friday Beach Pic

Friday Beach Pic, originally uploaded by captainjay.

TGIF! sitting on Brewers Bay eating my lunch enjoying the view. Definitely lovin' the half day on Friday. This is the first Friday in awhile that I haven't had errands to run so I decided to sit on a beach. It's pretty quiet at Brewers and close to UVI and I haven't been here in awhile, so it sounded like the thing to do.

If you haven't already heard, MTV Real World is filming here. They are renting a place on Hassel Island. The crew has been here for a little while setting things up and the contestants started showing up a couple days ago. They were filming yesterday on Water Island and payed Joes Beach bar a visit. I suspect we'll be seeing them around Frenchtown this weekend. They'll be filming the next several months and the episodes should air late summer. I've never watched the show before but I've heard there is always drama and fighting amongst the players. I still think it's good for St. Thomas and all the businesses that will benefit from it. I'll let you know in a couple months if I was wrong :-)

Have a great weekend!
