Sunset over Red Hook

We're sitting at Lattitude 18 waiting to see the Fidler again. The sunset was pretty cool so I thought I would share. We've never eaten here but heard good things and the menu looks wonderful so hopefully it's as good as it sounds.

Update: the food was very good and the Fidler was over the top. Much more "into" it than when he was at tickles. Since he plays here three nights a week during high season, this is his home crowd and the regulars know all his songs. It was pretty entertaining!! If it wasn't for the road, we'd come move often, but it's pretty rough.

Day is done ......

Day is done ......, originally uploaded by captainjay.

So we're sitting and waiting for the car barge again. There is only one ferry running so the schedule today was pretty bad. Even with that it was still a great day!

Red Skies at morn......

We had a beautiful sunrise this morning, so I thought I'd share. But the wind and surf advisories are keeping us from being about to get out on a boat. We were invited to go out with our friends on Forever Young yesterday, but the wind and surf was too much for what was supposed to be a fun sail, so it was cancelled. We're supposed to rent a boat tomorrow from Nauti Nymph, but again the conditions are not looking like it would be a fun day. So we may just take the car over to St. John and have fun over there. I know, tough decision.

Sunrise

Well I am off today and running errands to get ready for company this week. I have to do some work around the house and make a Cost-U-Less trip. The sky was just to pretty this morning not to take a quick picture and post it.

Pink and Blue Sunrise

Well after the heavy rains last night this was the morning view from the patio. The cistern overflowed most of the night have the heavy rains and the green is definitely back in the landscape.

Under Way

Under Way, originally uploaded by captainjay.

Well we are under way to St. Croix. We got up at 5 am and by 5:20 we were heading out to sea. Captain Gary doesn't mess around....when its time to go, its time to go.

It looks like we will only have iPhone pics from this trip. Jay brought the camera, underwater housing, batteries, and charger. But forgot the memory card. So no sailing videos....bummer.

Stay tuned for more.....

Sunrise Over Little Manhattan

Some of our friends on St. John call St. Thomas "Little Manhattan". It almost seems comical all things considered. That is until you go to the store on St. John because by their standards St. Thomas does have all the luxuries of home. Either way the sunrise was beautiful this morning and I needed a tag line to go with it so I could post this picture.

BTW - mosquito situation much better last night after dumping bleach in the cistern!

First Morning

First Morning, originally uploaded by captainjay.

Woke up this morning to a beautiful sunrise. The view is just awesome. There was a gentle breeze blowing. It was actually a little on the "chilly" side which I thought would be impossible. I wish I could say our first night in the house was just as great but I didn't sleep a wink. We were eaten alive by Mosquitoes! They kept buzzing our head and biting the crap out of us. I definitely see a mosquito net in our future. My face was bitten so bad my one eye is puffy and my forehead has huge knots on it!

Today I get to unpack the boxes and suitcases and find the right place to put everything. Our friends that have been on St. John leave today so they will be coming over to St. Thomas to hang out for the afternoon until time for their plane to leave. Then the new tenant that is moving in the apartment in our house arrives today so I'm going to meet her at the airport to show her how to get to the house.
Busy day. Jay has to work today so I'll be doing all this myself. I know you feel sorry for me :-) Well I better get busy.

Howl at the Moon

Well we are taking the weekend off. We have eight friends from home that came in yesterday. They are staying on St. John for a week or so. We will be joining them this evening and crashing on thier sofa. Tomorrow we are renting power boats to go to Jost. So, it will likely be a live iPhone posting weekend with "The People Your Parents Warned You About"

Almost Live Sunset

The weather here today has been a real mixed bag. A little rain, a little sun, a little cloud, and a wind gust or two. I really thought the sunset was going to be great this evening. At the last few minutes a cloud bank dropped down near Puerto Rico and it just wasn't all that. Still nice but just not the real bright reds and oranges we were expecting. By the way this is from the balcony at the apartment. We decided to stay in and have a quiet evening. We cooked pesto crusted chicken breasts, green beans and roasted red potatoes. Life is truly tuff.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Well since we are moving through the sequel to the to do list at a blistering island pace, we have decided that tomorrow is a day off. The plan at this point is to get up in the morning, when we feel like it. Then we will make a little breakfast here at the apartment. Take a shower pack a small bag and drive to Red hook. Then we are going to take the Ferry over to St John. Spend a little quality time on a beach, probably Trunk. Then its off to the Beach Bar for Sunday Jazz, The Forum Gathering and some tuna down. Keep checking back tomorrow as we will be posting live via the iPhone.

Ground Hog Day

Well we have Internet access at the apartment today. Actually we had it yesterday and just didn't know it. It's actually DSL and it's hard wired. Silly us we just assumed it would be WiFi. So we have checked an item or two off of the list and will start again today. A trip, postponed from yesterday to Cost U Less to stock up on the essentials. We have the island trader and will be making a few more phone calls about cars, and I have to go see a woman about a horse, I mean a job. Yep that's the reality of paradise. Without a trust fund I will have to find work. I had made a few contacts prior to getting here and will be going to one of the more promising ones today.

We both still get a silly grin when we walk downstairs in the morning at see the view from the apartment deck. It's just hard to beat.
