Friday Beach Pic

Friday Beach Pic, originally uploaded by captainjay.

Brewers Bay beach, from a distance. What started out as a really crappy day weather wise has turned into a beautiful Friday afternoon. Especially since I'm off the rest of the day! :-). Loving my modified schedule where I only work a half day on Friday. Even though most the time I spend it running errands and grocery shopping. But hey, it's all good.

It's been a pretty quiet week. Still trying to rest up from our two weeks of running around like crazy tourists. :-). Back to diets and workouts. Fun, fun. Even Jay is trying to cut back a little bit. I started back at the gym on Monday with a willPower & Grace class and of course overdid it and haven't been able to walk all week. I know better than to do that but I guess I don't learn very well. So no zumba all week because if it. Tomorrow I'm going waking and zumba at YHG so hopefully that goes well and my legs are ready for the challenge. Wish me luck.

No plans for the weekend other than resting which sounds awesome right now. :-)

Welcome back Captain Gary

Welcome back Captain Gary, originally uploaded by captainjay.

After being gone from the Virgin Islands almost four years, captain Gary and his girlfriend Allison arrived yesterday after sailing his 45 Foot sailboat down from Michigan to St. Thomas. 3500 miles and five months later they arrived at their destination. They plan to hang around the area for awhile with trips around the BVI and occasional trip down island. We helped celebrate their arrival with a toast of Dom Perignon on the boat and then dinner at Hook, Line & Sinker.

Gary has been a long time friend. He was our first captain when we made our very first trip to the Virgin Islands and have been friends ever since. He was the captain for the charter Freedom for several years before deciding to return to Michigan to run his day sail business Sunshine charters on Lake Charlevoix. He wanted to share the virgin islands with his girlfriend Allison so they decided to sail Sunshine down. I'm hoping to get them to do a guest blog post detailing their experience. They told us some great stories last night and I'm sure there are plenty more.

So welcome back captain Gary and welcome Allison :-)

Friday beach pic

Well it's the last full day of the staycation. The last group leaves tomorrow. We had lunch and cocktails at Magens Bay and doing a little shopping. I thought it would be cool to have lunch on the beach but the food wasn't all that great. $30 for two club sandwiches and a slice of pizza. Wow. But the view was nice :-)

The pic above is Hans Lollick when we did our St. Thomas boat tour. That was such an awesome day.

Happy valentines day

Happy valentines day, originally uploaded by captainjay.

Happy valentines day from de islands. We had an awesome day yesterday on the boat. The water was so flat! We circumnavigated St. Thomas. It's the first time we've done that. We had a short stop at Botany Bay, drive by Magens Bay and stopped for lunch at Hans Lollick. We snorkeled, swam, explored, ate lunch from Frenchtown Deli and relaxed. Then we continued on to the east end with drive by's at Coral World, Sugar Bay, and Sapphire. When we came around the south side of St Thomas the water was so flat we decided to run out to Buck Island and do a little snorkeling and more relaxing. There were so many fish, it was beautiful. I guess they are used to people since all the cruise ship day excursions go there. But we had it all to ourselves. Then it was time to head back to Frenchtown with a stop for a beautiful sunset. What an awesome day.

Today is a different story as far as the water conditions and overcast skies. A north swell moved in over night and there are some pretty good waves out there. We definitely picked the best day for our excursion. So today we are going to hit the tourist spots and overlooks since it's the last full day for two of the couples. Maybe we can talk the guys into getting us a valentines gift :-)

A day at Joes

A day at Joes, originally uploaded by captainjay.

Having a great time on water island. Hanging at Joes today. And lovin' the golf carts lol Tonight we're having dinner at Hedi's honeymoon grill. She does a dinner on the beach, rib eye, salmon or bacon wrapped pork loin, sides and salad. I'm really looking forward to it. We've had great weather, a small rain shower here and there but nothing big. So just thought I'd let you know we're having a great staycation :-)

Water Island View

Our friends staying on Water Island love their villa. The view is great, and they're having a good time running around the island on thier golf cart lol. They had provisions delivered their first day and said they did an outstanding job. It was so nice to not have to worry about bringing cases of water, soda, beer, food, all that stuff, on the ferry. (http://piratesridge.com/Home_Page.php) They were greeted at the ferry dock by a very nice gentleman, loaded their luggage in the vehicle and off they went to check out the villa.  So they are very pleased with the overall experience. I'm looking forward to hanging out this weekend and checking out the island. I've never been off the beach at Honeymoon so it'll be an experience for sure :-)

The last group arrives today and Jay and I are off starting tomorrow so it's going to be a fun week!

Pregame party view

Pregame party view, originally uploaded by captainjay.

Hanging out on St. John today with our friends from WV. Their villa has an awesome view so they decided to just watch the game at the villa instead of trying to go out to a bar. So they threw some burgers on the grill, whipped up some guacamole and I made a few batches of BBC's. Jay laying in the hammock proclaims that it's a terrible way to watch the superbowl :-)

Friday Beach Pic

Friday Beach Pic, originally uploaded by captainjay.
The weekend is here and lots going on.

Tonight is Billigan's going away party at the Looney Bien. He took a job on St. Croix. I'm sure he'll make an occasional trip back to St. Thomas so it won't be the last we see of him.  But it's still a good reason to have a party. Brian Dean will be playing so if you're on island, stop by.

First group of friends arrived safely this week and are enjoying their St. John villa. I'm going out with them tomorrow on Born to Rhumb, but Jay has to work. Hopefully he can meet up with us after work depending on how the day goes. CYOA is hopping this weekend. Between today and Sunday, 17 out of 20 boats are leaving the dock. Most are sleep a boards, which means they stay the night on the dock and leave the next morning so Frenchtown should see some good business from all the guests.

Then for Superbowl Sunday we plan to head over to St. John as soon as Jay gets off work to watch the game with our friends. If he gets off early enough the plan is to hit a beach before the game. You just can't beat St. John beaches and I can't pass up an opportunity to sit on the white soft sand and look at the beautiful colors of the water. (Pic above is Hawksnest beach on St. John)

Monday the second group arrives that are staying on Water Island. This will be a new experience for everyone, including us. The villa comes with a golf cart so we'll be able to run around the island and see more than just Honeymoon beach. They hired someone to provision so that they wouldn't have to carry all the stuff over on the ferry so we'll see how that goes. I'm pretty excited to finally get to explore the island a little bit. Depending on how tired they are from traveling and how tired we are from our crazy weekend, we may try to go over for the Monday night movie that Heidi's Honeymoon Grill does on the beach. I've always wanted to go but have just never done it. She hangs a huge sheet in the palm trees and shows a movie, sells hot dogs and popcorn and drinks. If we don't make it this Monday we still have next Monday.

Wednesday the last group arrives that are staying with us. Jay and I both took off the week that they're here so we'll be able to enjoy it a little more. It's so hard trying to work while everyone else is enjoying their vacation. So we'll be doing lots of boating, running around Water Island and hopefully a trip to St. John with group 1 before they leave.

After this bunch leaves there are no more planned visitors. It'll be time to "dry out" and get some rest lol. Our landlord is planning to have some work done at the condo so we'll need to coordinate that. My plan is to get back into my routine of Jenny and the gym. I have got to get the weight back off that I've gained from the holidays and visitors. Why is it so hard to loose but so easy to gain back. It sucks. But I've done it before so I know I can do it again :-)

Well everyone have a great weekend and check back for rednecks in the Caribbean updates :-)
