Checked my hurricane kit just to make sure we have everything. While I was taking this pic the power went off so Jay showed me how to start the generator and use the transfer switch to switch the power over. Pretty ironic that the power went off when it did. I needed to learn how to run the generator so I'm glad I can mark that off my list.
Heres the kit:
Candles
Lighter
Flashlights
Batteries
Radio
Lantern
First aid kit
Bug spray
Bug zapper
Zip locks
Canned food
Manual can opener
Water
Ice chests
Paper plates, paper towels, plastic ware
Cash
If you can think of anything else I need please let me know.
The good the bad and the details. We are moving to St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. We will try to keep a rambling record for anyone that ever dreamed of giving it all up and moving to the Islands to learn from or just laugh at.

Deb - seriously consider oil lanterns for light rather than candles or battery powered lights. A cooler light and safer than candles and they burn very little lamp oil.

Hey Deb,
Did you make sure you have fresh diesel fuel for the generator?
