De Beach

De Beach, originally uploaded by captainjay.

So we are in St John today for the Halloween parties and to see some friends. So we spent the day at the beach. We could tell you which beach but then we would have to kill you, it's a secret.

Boatin'

Boatin', originally uploaded by captainjay.

Got to go boatin' today. It was sooo good being out on the water, it's been a long time. So it was way over do. Our boat is still in Puerto Rico so friends of ours took pity on us and took us out for the day. :-)

A day at home

A day at home, originally uploaded by captainjay.

Spent the day hanging out at the house today. We definitely needed some down time with all the running around we've been doing. :-)

But it wasn't a day to just sit around. I spent most of it cleaning windows and screens. And we have a lot of windows so it took like four hours! After doing zumba five days straight you'd think I'd have the stamina built up for a little house work. But man it wiped me out! So I had to reward myself with a little refreshment :-). BBC always makes you feel better.

Friday Pic

Friday Pic, originally uploaded by captainjay.

TGIF! Survived five days in a row of Zumba with four evenings at the gym! Not really sure how I'm not in traction lol but I'm feeling really good and hope to keep the momentum going.

Tonight we're heading to the Pistarckle theater to see our friends in the production of Rocky Horror show! I can't wait! I've really been looking forward to this. I really meant to watch the movie to gear up for the show but never did so I guess I'll just have to wing it lol. But it should be lots of fun. In honor of the show, my holloween costume this year is Magenta. I ordered it from buycostumes.com and it was here in one day! could not believe it. But it's a little big so I'll have to do some alterations. I'm not used to things being too big! Lol

So anyways, we still haven't been to the beach yet since we've been back so no beach pic. I guess I need to go borrow some friends pictures or get my butt to the beach! I think I like that idea better! :-). So I'm sharing a sunrise pic from earlier this week. It got lots of compliments on facebook so hope you enjoy it also.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Clear Views

We've had some really clear horizons lately. We've been able to see St. Croix to the south which is 40 miles away. We've also been able to see Culebra and Vieques (Spanish Virgins) to the west which are around 20 miles away. Yesterday Culebra was so clear that you could see the houses scattered over the island and see the outline of Puerto Rico behind it, which is 40 miles away.

I know this time of year we really don't want clear horizons. Hazy conditions helps to keep storms away but I'm really enjoying the beautiful views :-)

Magen's Bay Overlook

Just a little video I shot with the iPhone last Saturday. It was so pretty out that I had to pull over at the Magen's Bay overlook and take a better look. Enjoy!

Zumbathon

Zumbathon, originally uploaded by captainjay.

We had a great turnout for the Zumbathon that was held yesterday to benefit the Susan G Komen for the Cure. Two hours of zumba for a great cause. I didn't stop the whole two hours and had a blast! Several different instructors from on island took turns leading routines and had their class come up to lead a few. So yes, the UVI class came up and lead a couple songs and did a great job. There are some good instructors on island but I have to say that our instructor, Joni Jones is the best one. She has the best routines and easy to follow and she's just as cute as she can be. So if you're looking to start taking a zumba class on STT definitely take one of Joni's classes at UVI or Antillies.

Friday pic

Friday pic, originally uploaded by captainjay.

We forgot to do a Friday beach pic this morning. Haven't been to a beach in awhile so here's the view from UVI. Thought it looked pretty good so I thought you might enjoy it. All the brown yucky water from all the rain is gone and we're back to our pretty Caribbean blue. :-)

Have a great weekend!

Party in Pink

This is a repost of a previous entry. The Zumbathon is this Sunday. So if  you're on island and want to contribute to the Susan G Komen for the Cure, then come join us for Zumba!

If you're on island October 17th, then you should come Zumba for a good cause. All proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. There will be several Zumba instructors on island leading a two hour Zumbathon. It'll be a lot of fun for a good cause.

If you don't know what Zumba is, it's basically dance aerobics to Latin and other world music. High energy, easy to follow moves that gets the heart rate up and music that makes you want to dance. I've been going since April and absolutely love it. I hate it when I have to miss a class. I even did two in one day last Tuesday. Let's Zumba! :-)

When: October 17, 2010 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Where: Mark C Marin Center at Antilles School Frenchman Bay
Cost: $10
Contact: Joan Martinez Jones jonijones22@hotmail.com

Just ordered our Party in Pink Zumba shirts from http://www.zumba.com/us/

UVI finally officially opened the new Wellness Center and I joined this week. We've been having our Zumba classes there since last week and that is really nice. The gym is open to the general public as well as students, staff and faculty. It hasn't been too busy yet, but I would guess as word gets out that the membership will increase.

Opening up the House

So Deb and I are at the house today opening things up. We put the shutters up for Earl's visit and between that storm, our trip to the states and house/dog sitting the last two weeks we haven't been home much. I think I have slept here about six or seven nights in the last seven weeks if you take into count the roughly three weeks that I spent in Puerto Rico. Needless to say the house needs a good cleaning. We have got the shutters down and have done a general dusting and sweeping, along with a little mop work but it's going to need more as we are going to be back in the house this week.

Snowman in the Caribbean

Probably the only snowman in the Caribbean! Lol. This is a gift from my friend Jacki who owns A Primitive Glow. A beautiful candle shop in WV. Check out her website at http://www.aprimitiveglow.com/. Thanks Jacki! :-)

As you can see by the background, it's a beautiful morning! Hopefully this means the crazy rain is over and we can start to dry out. Have a great weekend everyone! :-)

Friday No Rain

Friday No Rain, originally uploaded by captainjay.

It's Friday! And it's not raining at the moment. Yea! That little system really did some major flood damage. The ground is so saturated that all the run off is just backing up in the streets and causing some nasty looking harbors. The forecast is for more rain today so we're not out of this yet.

The "disturbance" that went by us is now Tropical Storm Otto, soon to be Hurricane Otto. And even though it's way north of us and most likely heading out to sea, we're feeling the outer rain bands and the pressure is pulling in rain from all the way from South America. But at the moment the rain has stopped, and the sun is out. It's humid as heck, but I can deal with that. Hopefully the forecast is wrong and the rain is done so we can all dry out! :-)

Nasty weather

Nasty weather, originally uploaded by captainjay.

Well, the disturbance that went through last night really left a mark on STT. Power was off, major flash floods and rock slides.... that's what 10 inches of rain will do. All the harbors are muddy yucky brown color, instead of the normal Caribbean blue. Government offices and schools were closed. But UVI was still open :-)

More rain is expected tonight so keep your fingers crossed that no more damage is done.

Rainy Days

Since Sunday, it's been pretty much on and off rain. Which is fine by us since we've just been sitting around doing nothing trying to relax after our trip. We've discovered how to watch netflix streaming on our laptop so we've been watching non stop movies.
There's a slow moving low pressure system over us which is causing all the rain and another system right behind the current one. I've been getting flash flood email warnings from weather.com for days. Cisterns are filling up which is a good thing.
So that's the reason for lack of posts lately. We're just chillin' so not much going on and with the rain not a lot of pretty pics to post.
